What is Double Chance in football betting?

A football match has three possible results: the home team wins, the away team wins, or it finishes level. Double Chance is a single selection that covers two of those three at once. Instead of needing one exact outcome, you need one of two — so it comes in far more often than a straight match-result pick.

The three versions

  • 1X — home or draw. Wins if the home side wins or the match is drawn. Only an away win loses.
  • X2 — away or draw. Wins if the away side wins or the match is drawn. Only a home win loses.
  • 12 — either team to win. Wins if either side wins. Only a draw loses.

The trade-off

Nothing is free. Because two results out of three win, the return offered on a Double Chance selection is noticeably smaller than on the same team to win outright. You are swapping size of return for frequency of return. A selection that lands roughly four times in five will still put you behind overall if the returns are thin enough — the strike rate on its own tells you nothing.

That is why the market is most interesting where the draw is genuinely likely, not simply where you want a comfortable-looking selection. Tight games between evenly matched sides, derbies, low-scoring leagues and matches where one side only needs a point are the classic cases: the draw is doing real work in the selection rather than just padding it.

How it compares to Draw No Bet

Double Chance is often confused with Draw No Bet. They are not the same. With Double Chance, a draw is a winning result. With Draw No Bet, a draw is a void result — the selection is cancelled and your money comes back. Draw No Bet usually offers a bit more on the team winning, because the draw only refunds you rather than paying you.

Where it fits for us

We no longer tip Double Chance on its own. Our tips stick to match result, Draw No Bet and both teams to score. We keep to markets like these deliberately: they are easy to understand, widely available, and the data behind them is reliable. Common questions

What does Double Chance mean?
Double Chance covers two of the three possible results of a football match in one selection: home win or draw (1X), away win or draw (X2), or either team to win (12).
What do 1X, X2 and 12 mean?
1X means the home team wins or the match is drawn. X2 means the away team wins or the match is drawn. 12 means either team wins, so only a draw loses.
Why are Double Chance returns smaller?
Because two outcomes out of three win, the selection is far more likely to come in, so the return offered on it is lower than backing a single result.
Is Double Chance a safe bet?
No bet is safe. Double Chance wins more often than a straight result pick, but it still loses, and smaller returns mean fewer losses are needed to leave you behind.
